PlayStation 3 80GB This instant

First I have to admit that I am new to the Sony consoles. So with that, you will understand that this review will not contain complaints of backward compatibility (or lack thereof). While I do understand those complaints, I just do not have them because I never owned a Sony game unit.

Okay, that out the way...What my family enjoys most about this is how the Playstation Network is soooo fun to play. You can play bowling, pool, and countless other games all with folks you don't even know. Just "walk up to them," (how'd ya like to join me in a game o' pool?) and go for what you know (pretty cool).

Graphics-Graphics-Graphics. Sometimes my wife and I wonder if we are looking at a digital photo or a video game (see Gran Turismo 5). If you have a television with HDMI ports AND you love video games, then this is the gaming console for you!

We purchased the BD remote for Blu-Ray Disc playback functionality, and fell with love with this thing even more.

All gaming systems (pc, wii, and 360) have their pluses and minuses, but out of all of them the Playstation to me stands out because it is a gaming console, but has so much more you can do than JUST play video games with it.

The price is high (both for the console & some games/accessories), but for all it does and can accomplish for you, I have to say it is worth it in the end.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

After talking to people, reading reviews, and having my PS2 breakdown I decided to get the PS3. After plugging it in and connecting to my wireless router i received a message to download an update. After doing so i could not reconnect to my router. After over an hour and a half on the phone with their tech support i gave up and figured it out on my own. I had to manually enter the IP and all the DSN addresses as well as my WEP security in order to get back on line and sign up for their network. IT is mind boggling to me that Sony stopped making these reverse compatible with PS2 games. First you needed better than the 40gb version to play ps2. Now even with the 80gb, you still CAN NOT PLAY your PS2 games however you can play PS1. ??? Are you kidding? This is clearly a move by playstation to get even more money from loyal customers. Had this been clear to me....I would have picked up a used PS2 and gotten a Wii and all kinds of games and accessories for the price i paid for the PS3. As for the other features, Blue Ray is nice but additional cables for 30 or more dollars are needed to get that quality to the TV. All all i am not that crazy about plunking down all this money for a system that can't play any of the dozens of ps2 games not to mention Guitar Hero World Tour accessories that are not compatible even if the software was. Oh yeah, those of you purchasing Guitar Hero World Tour or Rockband...sorry, only 2 usb ports on this one so fork over another $[...] or so for a USB hub to add ports for the other accessories.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Now I have to preface this with the fact that I am not a huge gamer. You won't find me buying gaming magazines or hanging out in the front of my local Target before it opens waiting for the release of some new video game. I do enjoy games like Tomb Raider, Spyro, and Metal Gear Solid, games that involve puzzles and some fighting to get to a destination. With that said and compared to my Play Station 2 this thing is a major upgrade and I mean major upgrade. I just love, love, love the cordless controllers that are rechargable. I love the quality and the movement of the games, and I love that this functions as a blueray player. I only have 2 and only 2 negative things to say about this unit. First the price. For $400 I would expect that this thing would come with all the extras that I had to pay for. The wireless controller charger, the blue ray remote controller, and my ethernet cable. When all is said and done this thing has cost me a crud load of money to much for me to even want to calculate. Second, I wish that you could play Play Station 2 games on this thing. This is truly a luxury family entertainment peice of equipment. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

While not a gamer, my fiancee has begged for a game system for the last 6 months. I finally broke down and purchased the PS3 after reviewing several game systems. I am very happy with the purchase. Mostly, I love the BluRay player - what at picture! The graphics are excellent on every game as well.

I am somewhat disappointed with the playstation network. We have tried multiple times to log on while playing SingStar and get kicked out. Otherwise, this system is a lot of fun.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Save PlayStation 3 80GB

To start, I'll mention that I own all three consoles- an Xbox 360 Pro (20GB), the PlayStation 3, and a Nintendo Wii. I like all 3 of them. The last addition was the PS3.

I received this as a gift for Christmas.

I think the console is a great piece of hardware, and overall, I love it.

What I think is great about the console:
-Controllers. The controllers are lighter, rumble capable, and motion sensitive (vs. the 360). They come with rechargeable batteries and have great range. The R2/L2 buttons have improved design (trigger style) over the PS2.
-Hardware. The PS3 doesn't have a huge power brick and is much quieter than my 360. While I've been through 7 Xboxes (first died within 30 days of getting it), I have had no issues whatsoever with the PS3. Bluetooth is great and wireless is convenient, a feature Microsoft charges $100 for. Capacitive "buttons" on the console looks sleek. The included hard drive is great. Sony also trusts you to put in your own, larger capacity hard drive, a convenience that doesn't tie you to any HD manufacturer and doesn't void your warranty.
-Blu-Ray. Now that it's won the format war, the PS3 is a smart buy for Blu-Ray alone. Yes, they're starting to come out with $200 Blu-Ray players. I've never had a profile or firmware issue with any Blu-Ray disk on my PS3, it has 1080P HDMI, ethernet AND wireless for BD live, and storage space for enhanced features. Oh, and it doesn't take a long time to boot like some Blu-Ray players. I could be satisfied with my PS3 purchase for just this feature alone.
-Software. Love Sony or hate them, Sony has some great exclusives on the PS3. MGS4 and Ratchet & Clank are particularly great.
-PlayStation Network is free, store is easy to use.

What are my gripes?
-Xbox Live may be a paid service, but it's also much more fully featured. I've never seen a cheater on Xbox Live since 360 launch, while I've seen numerous instances on the PSN. Xbox Live is also much better integrated throughout the console (you can have a party on one game, decide to switch to another, and not lose anything). Sony will get closer over time, but Xbox Live is a far superior service. I would pay an equal amount to get a similarly developed online service on the PS3.
-Why does almost every game require some sort of install? MGS4 is particularly annoying about this, with installs in between each chapter (these installs are shorter but still annoying) and it quickly eats up your hard drive space.
-An infared port costs almost nothing, is the same black as the console, and requires very little standby power. Sony's decision to not include one is mind boggling. Sure, the Blu-Ray remote works great (Bluetooth), but a lot of people (myself included) can't use a universal remote. Even if you get an adapter (USB to Infared), the PS3 doesn't power the USB ports in standby, so there is no way to turn the console on with the remote (you have to leave a DualShock on, wasting the batteries).
-Speaking of no power for USB in standby, this is another mind boggling thing for me. Why can I only charge my controllers while the console is ON? I'm often tethered to the console due to a need to charge. Some 3rd party accessories can solve this- I bought the PlayStation 3 Charge Base 2 from Nyko- and it works well, charging the controllers quickly and leaving them looking neat- but buying a 3rd party accessory shouldn't be necessary.
-Why isn't the Blu-Ray remote included with the console if the ability to play Blu-Ray disks is such a big selling point?
-The PS3 only comes with a composite (yellow/white/red), non-HD connector. Why isn't an HDMI cable included? Monoprice.com sells the cables for cheap, but unless you order it before the PS3, you won't have it in time, and for the $10 it costs to give buyers an HD cable in the box...the Xbox 360 includes component AND HDMI cables in the box, so Sony doesn't have a valid excuse in my book.
-The controllers are nice, but the nonremovable battery limits your ability to swap in a spare or even replace the battery as it wears out.

Overall, I love the console. I have some criticism, but I think the purchase was very much worth it.

Random tips?
-Get the Charge Base I mentioned earlier. It works well and is faster and more convenient than using the USB cables.
-Check with your credit card issuers. Gold Mastercards, Visa Signature cards, and almost all American Express cards come with free extended warranty service. Mastercard & Visa will double the Sony warranty to 2 years, and Amex will do so as well. If you're wondering if you have it, call your card issuer and ask if you have this benefit. American Express also offers accidental damage coverage- up to $1,000 per incident, max $50,000 per year for accidental damage, loss, or theft- for NO CHARGE. Just save your receipt with the statement, and if it breaks after the first year, you call the card issuer.
-Get a good surge protector. Save the receipt in the box. Almost all good surge protectors come with a lifetime guarantee. If the console dies due to a surge, they will pay the cost or give you a new replacement console. Put all the reciepts for any connected equpiment in the box too. I bought a $10 Belkin 7 outlet protector- $75,000 equipment guarantee.
-Buy Blu-Ray disks online (especially from Amazon), it's MUCH cheaper than buying them at retail stores.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Discount PlayStation 3 80GB

I have owned the PS3 since March 2008 and would definitely recommend it to anyone who not only enjoys to play video games, but also for those who want a system that can handle movies, photos, videos, internet and music. I didn't get through everything that this system does and is capable of doing but I highlighted the major points.

+ Graphics - The graphics are so detailed and realistic. Games like Metal Gear Solid 4 is the best (visually and probably gameply wise) you have ever seen from any console out there today. This goes to show you how powerful this system really is.

+ Games - Exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4, Motor Storm, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance which are available right now have superior graphics, great gameplay (online and solo), and will keep you entertained for hours. This year PS3 owners will be able to play exclusives like KillZone 2, Uncharted 2, MLB 09, God of War III, Heavy Rain, MAG (supports up to 256 multiplayer game), inFamous, etc. The PlayStation Network also has great downloadable games that are fun and entertaining and worth the $9.99 that they cost.

+ Movies (Blu-Ray) - PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player that is one of the best out on the market right now. If there is a firmware update to the Blu-Ray format, don't worry because your PS3 will be one of the first to receive it. I have a Full HDTV and I love watching Blu-Ray movies. I know that they are kind of pricey which is why I subscribed to NetFlix and pretty much only rent Blu-Ray. Trust me there is quite a difference from a standard DVD to a Blu-Ray. The PS3 also upconverts DVDs to near-HD quality. There is also a third-party program called PlayOn that will let you view your Watch Instantly movies from your PS3 through your computer in addition to Hulu, CNN, YouTube, ESPN. The quality is great especially Netflix. All of my movies in my Queue show up on my PS3 by alphabetical order, genre, Top 50, etc. The only thing is that you have to leave your computer on while it is playing the movies and the program cost $30 after a free trial if you wish to buy. I recommend it if you have Netflix or enjoy Hulu.

+ PSN Network / Internet Browser / Online Play - The PSN is has a game section and a video section. The game section includes demos, downloadable games, among other things. The video section is currently growing and has standard definition (SD) movies for sale and HD and SD movies for rent. I've rented a few HD movies and they are Full HD quality and very convenient if you don't feel like going to Blockbuster. The rentals are the same as Blockbuster. If you want to buy the movies they cost $15. The internet browser is fast and convenient if you don't want to sit at your computer. I normally watch YouTube videos, read ESPN, CNN, etc and the experience is just as good as the computer. Although I wouldn't trade it for the internet capabilities of the computer. I play games online a lot such as sports games and Call of Duty 4 & 5 and never had any problems. The game rooms are always full of people to play with and gameplay quality is great. Another great application that is showing a lot of promis is Playstation Home. At first I wasn't a big fan of it because you would get easily bored with it after 15 minutes, but with recent news that EA Sports will be having their own space with mini-games, videos, etc. with more EA spaces to come is something to get excited about. More developers will be creating spaces and there will be a lot to do in Home in the near-future such as game launching, showing off your trophies to your friends in your Home space, listening to music or watching movies, etc.

+ Music/Video/Photos - You can also put your music library, photos, videos into your PS3 and be able to show off your pictures, listen to music through your surround sound and the quality is superb. The pictures show off beautifully on my 40 inch. If you have a hugh library and not enough storage don't worry since Sony made it very easy to upgrade your internal hard drive. I recently purchased a 320gb internal hard drive from Amazon for about $80 and installed it in about 5 minutes. It is very easy and you don't have to be tech-savvy at all (I know I'm not). The 40gb hard drive that I had in the PS3 I put it into an external case, also bought from Amazon and now I use it as an external hard drive. You can also make your PS3 a media server and play your music, photos, videos through your PS3 by way of your computer through your wireless network. So now I have a pretty big selection of music, photos and video on my PS3 to make this durable and powerful system my all around entertainment system.

I recently bought a PS3 and I am very impressed with the device. I already own a Wii and wanted another console with more racing titles. The graphics that the PS3 has to offer are top of the line. The Blu ray capabilities are a definite plus. I was also impressed with the seamless media integration with the home network. After this years blockbuster PS3 only titles like Metal gear solid4, Little big planet and Motorstorm:Pacific rift, no one can complain about the lack of stellar exclusive titles. Sony definitely has come up with a winner here. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Sony put together an excellent piece of equipment. Great Blu-Ray Player. Great Media Steaming tool. It has a built in web browswer...

As a gaming system, it is only as good as its games - in that regard, 360 has the edge. BUT it is one of the best Blu-ray players and you get all the other stuff.

Buying PlayStation 3 80GB

Monday, November 23, 2009 by Migo - Leave a comment

!!Warning!! - Make sure you get a valid warranty on this system when buying it. I have heard cases where some people are getting ripped off for not doing enough research, from faulty Ps3's.

I haven't done a review on the ps2 or the ps1 so i figured i'd start here. I bought this system way back in November & i was so excited when i got it. It was really easy to set up, its really heavy though so you want to make sure you don't drop it to damage the hard drive or the console itself. The thing that kinda disappointed me was no backwards compatibility with this unit compared to all the others. For some odd reason Sony 'lacked' on getting that function put into the system. Not that i would ever really 'use' that function because i keep all my old systems & usually i have 2 just in case one breaks down.

It could be too that Sony wanted to save money by not having people to replace their units from prolonged use from the backwards compatibility. After all the more hours you put into the system the more likely it will cause it to die on you or become slow loadings. I have had that experience before with previous consoles, especially the ps1. I played that system non-stop & of course like i said the more hours you put into a system the more likely it will break down.

Best rule of thumb:

Play for an hour or 2 or if you're really into the game no more then 5 hours. Let it rest on standby for about 15min-1hr depending on how much you were playing it. This system tends to get pretty hot after awhile so its important to let it cool off & also it will keep the lens from burning out too quickly from too much exposure to heat. Playing it all the time will only allow you to get 1-3 years out of it. After learning that from my first ps1 & ps2 (well my ps2 still works ok) will allow more gaming overall. My 2nd ps1 still works good as new (not the mini) as well.

Other then that the Ps3 seems to be doing pretty well now, it just had a late start in the race & hopefully it'll get better. There are more games for it & with Resident Evil 5 & 2 Final Fantasy games being released on the system it should do fairly well, even though the X360 will also get the Final Fantasy game as well. But i've been seeing other great ps3 games coming out so it'll start doing better. You just have to save some extra money for it. Not that the Wii or the Xbox 360 are bad systems either more of my fav games are on the ps3. Plus the graphics are the best with this system. It beats the competition with that.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

The PS3 is, simply, awesome. And not just the kind of awesome that satisfies your gaming soul; the PS3 is the kind of awesome that even manages to blow away initial skepticism from family members who might be opposed to spending money on such a device. My wife for example.

To convince skeptical household members, I earnestly advise you to purchase a copy of LittleBigPlanet, and perhaps a Blu-Ray copy of a DVD you already have, so you can provide a practical demonstration of the amazing image quality.

The great thing about the PS3 is that it has everything - it can play DVD's, BluRay, music. You can connect your iPod to it. You can store and browse photos on it (in a beautiful photo-slideshow). It downloads updates wirelessly, and painlessly.

It's always difficult to choose between XBox, Wii and PS3. Ultimately t comes down to what games you want to play, and what you want the system to do for you. For me, Wii was out becasue I wanted BluRay support, and the games are, for me, a little too light. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Xbox, although cheaper, always seemed oriented more to a hardcore gamer. Sure, they have tried to address that, but still. I want BluRay. The PS3 falls in the middle. There are hardcore games, and family games.

Which brings me back to Little Big Planet. I want a gaming system that I can enjoy with my family - that everyone can enjoy. Because it's special when you catch that skeptical member of your household with a big grin on her face, moving her Sack Person around, to the charmingly witty narration of Stephen Fry.

And if Stephen Fry likes it... well. What more do you need?Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I really wish I had read the reviews for this product before I bought it. Don't worry, still have my receipt; however, the PS3, as others have said before, is not backwards compatible. The only games we play are music games and God of War. I guess we'll just miss out completely on God of War 3. Sony really messed up on this one. When can we expect the PS4? Perhaps it will only be compatible with PS3 games.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

The Playstation 3 is an amazing piece of gear. Believe it or not, I personally still have not played any games on this unit except for a few demos. I've just had little opportunity to do so. I have used "At Home" and I think its pretty cool. My son plays Tony Hawks Project and NBA Live 08, and Surfs the internet with it. Just watched Wanted and Handcock streaming movies and saved them to the PS3's hard drive for future viewing. I'm waiting on my Panasonic TH-42PZ85U to arrive so that I can play 1080p enabled games and watch my first Blu-ray movie. Build quality is second to none with the PS3, no red ring of death issues to worry about. The PS3 operates quitely, you don't even know its on. Overall, its a very solid product that's pretty much future proof with it state-of-the-art blu-ray player and spacious hard drive.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB

Love this system but it get very annoying time after time having to download/install the game to the hard drive. Each installment needs about 4-6 GB of space. I know it is all to help with loadtimes and you don't have the loud fan noise during game play like the Xbox 360 does. But I just wish the games I can put the disc in and start playing right away. There are even some things needed to be downloaded when wanting to play online. For Hot Shots: Out of Bounds it is taking for ever to download whatever it needs to just for me to play online. I have given up on that aspect of the game.

I did mainly get the system for the Blu_Ray. I have Xbox 360 and enjoying playing games on their because of the controller is a lot comfortable. The PS3 controller is uncomfortable for Shooter games and the layout for it bad with the R1,R2 and L1L2 buttons. But the if fighting games are your desire then the PS3 controller is best for that play. The D-pad is a lot more responsive on the PS3 and the 360 D-pad is horrible and sometimes you try to press one direction and you end up going in another.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

For less than the more popular xbox 360 you get a high def blu ray player included, the only gaming system to do so. The online gaming is free compared to $50 for xbox. PlayStation Home provides a free virtual chat room. Tons of free content on Playstation Store including game demos, movie trailers, and a news show. Many updates to games (including new characters and vehicles) are also free. Games are high def blu ray discs as well, providing superior graphics for an amazingly realistic experience. The Playstation saves me space and money by including the blu ray player, and has so much free content and online play it is far superior to other gaming systems out there.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

This was purchased primarily for the entertainment of the kids , although
adults can also share with the fun. Many hours can be spent enjoying the diversification of the games that are available for this product. The main distinction is that it has Blue-Ray. Remember , in order to enjoy its full capabilities you gotta have the HDMI connection. That goes for any item that has Blue-Ray. Sony always seem to be ahead of the game , when it comes to technology and features that others don't have. The drawback is that these games are expensive.
Either get them on sale or get a used one , assuming the price is favorable. Otherwise enjoy the experience.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I bought the PS3 to replace my home theater style DVD player that packed it. I am not much of a gamer...in fact, I'll confess that I really wanted a Blu Ray player but it made financial sense (yeah, credit crunch fellas!)to buy the PS3 instead because many of the blu ray players I would want to spend money on were in the same or higher price range. I love the fact that there's no more crowding near my 51 inch screen...just an unobtrusive and powerful player. I love how quiet this unit is, the fact that it uses little power, the fact that 80G is more memory than anyone should ever need since we all have other comupting devices in this day and age that are already standalone with tons of memory for what we like to store. The Bluetooth functionality is great! Again, I'm not a gamer...just someone who loves the versatility of his new 'media player' that's tons more than that!! It was a smart buy for my needs.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Had my eye on the PS3 for a long while. I knew what I was getting into before I even bought it. I think that's how most people are about this system. The games are a blast. Little Big Planet is addicting beyond belief. Uncharted was extremely well put together. Metal Gear Solid is in a league of its own. You'll buy this system if that's what you want. Blu-ray is definitely a sweet touch too. Iron Man is pretty sick in HD. I haven't explored the online gaming community much and I know that's a big knock vs the Xbox 360. Can't say that I ever was really into online gaming and first person shooters though and that's why I bought this system. I think most would agree. The only real gripes come with file sharing from a Mac and backwards compatibility with my PS2 games. I've also had some issues with networking and updating game files and downloading demos. Occasionally the connection will just drop. Nothing to keep me from enjoying the system though.

In general though, my biggest gripe comes from having to choose between the different systems. I would have bought the 60gb model if I knew it wasn't going to be around anymore. I really thought the point of having a home gaming system (instead of a PC) was to make the buying process simpler. I miss the days of having just one option and knowing it'll serve all my gaming needs.

In the end, you'll buy this system (over Xbox 360) for Blu-ray, Metal Gear Solid, Little Big Planet and because you are loyal to the Playstation brand. Everything else just comes to personal preference IMO.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I got my ps3 in the summer of 07 and it made one of the best summers ever. I would stay up playing my ps3 constantly. I chose a ps3 over a 360 due to multiple reasons. First and the most obvious was because of the blu ray player. I bought an HDTV and wanted to most out of it and the 1080p play back blu ray player makes my movie watching experience amazing. I hardly feel like going to the theaters now, I would rather wait and watch it on blu ray. 2nd the online gaming is free, with no issues or play cards to buy. 3rd its stylish and looks great as the center of a home theater set up.

The games out for PS3 now are great, your basically gone get the same games you get with the 360 but with a few exclusives. PS3 will catch on and will take over the xbox, I guarantee it. Not sure about the Wii though, I own that too. Sony is in the process of pumping out more exlusives and I've heard that Sony might drop the price this year. Ps3 has many cool options. The newer ones are not backwards capatable. Meaning they will not play ps2 games. Kind of silly on sony's part. Hopefully they will create an upgrade to these.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Lowest Price PlayStation 3 80GB

I've been enjoying the Playstation 3 for roughly two weeks now. Before owning the Playstation 3 I owned an XBox 360, which I eventually sold.

Brief history: I'm a 30 year old male who's been gaming since the Atari 2600. I've gamed on every system since then - including the TurboGrafx-16 - except for the Dreamcast. I eventually moved to the PC, and am now a console gamer once more.

The Playstation 3 turns out to be surprisingly good thus far. Graphics are top notch, gameplay is solid, and Blu-Ray's a boon. The friends list needs to be migrated into a more universal system ala XBox Live, but other than that online play is pretty decent. You do need to install each game to the console, but it's not usually as long winded as installing something to a computer.

Internet features are pretty decent, too. Even Youtube has a new website that allows full screen navigation for watching videos on your TV, though it's beta at the time of writing this and needs improvement.

Entertainment features are easy to use. No worries there. Insert a Blu-Ray or DVD movie and you're good to go.

There's an excellent photo album in the PS3 that makes it fun to go through your pictures. Due to the fact that the PS3 easily networks with the computers in your house you'll be able to browse the photos on your computer straight from the PS3.

You can also easily stream music files (such as MP3s) and video files from your PC.

It's also very easy to customize the background artwork of the PS3's interface - and it's FREE to do so, unlike the XBox 360 which makes you pay for themes or resort to using advertisements as themes if you want a "free theme". There are premium themes for the PS3, but it's super easy to transfer images from your desktop PC or from a USB stick to customize your background. No secretive theme system here.

In all, the Playstation 3 has some very good potential and delivers on some (even a lot) of that potential, though not all of it. It's no where near as bad as many people have made it out to be; indeed, the worse thing about the Playstation 3 is Sony itself. They need to stop making grandiose claims in the media or otherwise making a fool of themselves. They are their own worse enemy.

The system itself is good, though, and ultimately cheaper than the XBox 360. The catch, of course, is that you pay for it all up front with the PS3. Thus the seemingly larger price tag. With the 360 you'll be spending here-and-there to buy "add ons" to eventually have the whole system. Is that good or bad? That depends entirely on what you want.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

After going though TWO Xboxes, I was not going to buy a 360. I wanted something that would last and not have a 65% failure rate that the 360 has.

I have been looking at BD players forever and none are what they should be! Where is the bohemith's we should expect? Sony's PS3 is so good that is what the standard has been set to. I have this beast of a console and i still am amazed by everything it does and how well it does it! Oh yeah btw it has storage space on it for whatever you need. Cheapest PlayStation 3 80GB

I thought that this was a great investment because it's more to this than video games. This console plays a central part of my entertainment system because of its jaw-dropping quality when playing Blu Ray and DVD. Blu Ray discs look great on here, by the way. The loading times are very brief and I depend on this to view photos and listen to audio from Windows Vista. I have my PS3 connected to my network and I access everything on my desktop hardrive. This version is very quiet! I don't care what anyone says, noise is not a problem for me. It does stay cool, too!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Cheap PlayStation 3 80GB

We had been wanting a console for sometime but it is hard to justify spending such a large sum of money on something for playing games unless that is your main hobby.

I finally broke down and got a PS3 after Sony offered a $150 back which knocked the price down to $250. At that price I felt it was a worthwhile investment.

Not only can we play games on it but also it acts as another DVD player and gives us our first Blu Ray player. We can download game demos, movie trailers, and other things as well. It even has limited community socilization features which is a nice touch.

A few of the things we really like about the PS3 are the controllers which do not need batteries, they are wireless and you simply charge them. They fit great in your hands and are pretty lightweight.

It comes with WiFi as well which allowed us to connect online to our router with ease as our main TV room does not have an internet connection. The connection it gets is solid and we have not seen any issues there at all.

FREE to play online. No issues here and I love that I am not having to pay an extra fee every month to go online.

The menu system is very easy to use and straight forward. I like that fact that you can be playing a game and still get to the menu without having to exit the game.

A kool feature we recently found was an option for a smart turn off of the PS3. So when I started to download a bunch of demos before going to bed, I simply told the PS3 to turn itself off after it was done.

No heating issues at all. Runs silent and cool even after playing all night.

The Tech side I have read that the PS3 is only using a small fraction of what it is capable of, so in a sense the PS3 will go the distance and still provide a great console over the long haul.

Overall just a great investment. Its more than just a gaming system which will provide you and your family with a load of options and fun.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Buying PlayStation 3 80GB

This is one nice system with function and features well worth the money. Network connectivity was fast and easy, picture is beautiful, and setup was a breeze. I love the purchasing over the network; saves time and money.

Only negative, and this was a decision point I had to make: this system isn't backward compatible. I could have purchased one of the older systems for that, but I figured that my old PS2 would still work and play the old games.

Other than that, I love this machine. I have it pushing to a HD projector with a 5.1 sound system, and I am in the game.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Purchase PlayStation 3 80GB

by Migo - Leave a comment

Unfortunately I couldn't give a zero stars to this product but here I go...

I purchased a BRAND NEW PS3 that I got on Saturday January 31st, I opened the box, I connected it to my TV, started to play the movie Transformers on Blue Ray, alter 30 mins the movie stopped and the PS3 didn't read any disc at all any more. After the basic troubleshooting I had to call SONY.

I'm extremely upset with SONY on this matter, because they are very aware of this KNOWN ISSUE with their consoles, now I know why they lower their prices (they are using bad quality parts); I called SONY's support and as soon as I told the lady the problem with the console, she quickly replied "OOHH YES, PLEASE SEND IT TO US FOR SERVICE" with no vacillation. I happened to live in COSTA RICA, I took the PS3 to the SONY center located in SAN JOSE COSTA RICA, and they say that their authorized service repair shop is NOT authorized by SONY to repair PS3s purchased outside COSTA RICA, what kind of bull is that.

After doing a little research on this problem, I realize that many other PS3 owners have and had the same problem, which is a hardware problem, the BD-Drove simple dies, stops working; now the hole idea was to buy a cool new system, but it only lasted 30 minutes (probably less).

So I went to Amazon for refund, science I live in COSTA RICA, I was asked to ship the POS back to them, but all carriers (FEDEX, UPS, DHL) charge $160.00 average, to take it the Lexington KY. After a few calls to Amazon call center, SONY support center, over paying UPS to take the PS3 back to Amazon. I've spend about $650.00 on a PS3 that I don't have; which is $250.00 than what I planed to pay when I decided to buy this console.

Unfortunately Amazon just refunded the [..] that I paid for the PS3 but they say sorry the charges of shipping it to KY from where I live, I honestly was expecting a 50% refund on that, at least, but NO. So now I'm [...]short and NO PS3.

Still, my very special thanks to Corey of Amazon customer service whom did every thing Amazon allows him to.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Order PlayStation 3 80GB

Last January (2008) I decided to upgrade my old Xbox to 360. After spending hundreds of dollars in the console, games, etcetera... I had to return it after it stopped working 37 days after I purchased it... 7 days after the vendor warranty had expired... long story short, I returned it and decided to try the PS3... the best entertainment system I've ever had!

I remember the old days when an entertainment system like Atari, Nintendo and the like used to play games and... that was it, just games... I've been amazed of all the things the PS3 can do: it outputs in full HD (using of course and HDMI cable), reproduces almost every single video/image format (at least all the popular ones are included), it's disc drive is a BD drive that also upscales DVD and of course you can play videogames (I just finished Prince of Persia... the graphics and the music were stunning, and the game was great)

Never in my life had I used a console as much as I use this one. I can watch my family's pictures on our HDTV set while listening to music (I have a one year old son who loves to watch himself on the TV), we can watch both our home digital videos and videos downloaded from the web (music videos and the like), the access to the Playstation Network is free so I can log and download free content like themes, demos, trailers and buy games.

Since I got this I decided I'd start buying my movies on Bluray to take advantage of the format and the player, now I cannot watch a DVD and not think how good it would look in BD. The PS3 also does a great job upscaling DVDs to high definition, so you don't necessarily need to buy your old DVD movies in Bluray again as the PS3 not only will play them but will adjust them to high def.

The one I got has 4 usb slots so if you don't want to use the hard drive included and leave that for games, you can use an external drive (like I do), simply plug it and enjoy watching videos, photos and listening to music.

Add to all this it's elegant design and the Bluetooth remote and you can't go wrong.

Do I sound excited with it? I am! I am actually thankful for having to return my old XBox360!

Anyways, I just wanted to post this review as the general idea many people have of the PS3 is that it's just another video game console that also plays Bluray... this console was worth every penny.

This system is great. However, I will caution any of you out there who use a universal type remote (Harmony, Universal, etc.) that this unit uses BlueTooth instead of IR. You will need to buy some sort of adapter to get this to work. I went with the IR4PS3 version based on the fact it uses the hardware from the Sony Bluray remote for the PS3. Just another thing to keep in mind that you'll need to spend another ~$80 to keep your one-remote setup.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB

I owned a PS2 for many years with no problems and decided it was time to upgrade. I only play video games maybe 2-3 hours a week so I am no expert. I researched for weeks on weather to get a XBOX or the PS3. I read reviews from almost every website, some were good and some were bad. I was very hesitant but I loved my PS2, so I went with the PS3.

It was so easy to set up and connect with my wireless modem. Within minutes I was surfing the internet on my TV. Sometimes it's a little slow but that is b/c of my internet service provider. A great feature for me was going on the PS3 store and downloading demos for free. I went on and downloaded the demo for NHL09 and played it. I liked the game so much I went out and bought it.

Now onto the game play. I really only play sports games. So far I have played NHL09 and Tiger Woods 09. The graphics and loading times are so much better then the PS2. The joy and excitement of playing these games have increased dramatically. I read reviews that mentioned several problems, but I have not had any as of yet, although I have only had this for about 2 weeks.

I watched my first blu-ray movie over the weekend, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, that was great as well. I have no complaints about the PS3. I know it costs a lot of money, and the games are a little more expensive but you def get what you pay for.

A good piece of advice that I was told reading all the reviews was 90% of the people that have no problem don't go on these sites and write reviews. It is mostly the people that have problems and that are frustrated.

I def recommend this to every sports game player out thereGet more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB Review

Sunday, November 8, 2009 by Migo - Leave a comment

I have a 80 gb PS3 which i intend to use as a bluray player after reading all the glowing reports and reviews.

The following are some of the issues I have come across which I think everybody who is considering to buy a PS3 for use as a blu ray player should know and consider as these may be a deal breaker for some.

1) You can only have one audio output at a time either through TV or through your home theater system and not both. If you want to sometime have sound come through tv (playing games) and sometime through home audio system (watching Movie) there is a complicated 7 step process to change the audio out, which is to be done everytime you change audio output. With all other blu ray players, even cheap ones you can have simultaneous audio out from TV and speakers. This is soo bad.

2) No universal remote control will control PS3 unless you buy and attach a separate IR dongle, as PS3 does not have a infrared sensor. that means an additional remote to worry about.

3) no netflix, itunes or pandora support, which some of the other BD playes have.

4) No power off button on the remote, you have to physically go to the PS3 to switch it off.

So bottom line if you are going to play games and watch bluray PS3 is very good, but if you are solely interested in using PS3 as a bluray player, there are much better choices and cheaper.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I am really satisfied with the PS3.
I use it for playing blue ray movies. I also play regular dvs' upscaled to 1080P. Sorry I am not an ardent gamer, maybe I will become one soon :).
The best thing was when i plugged my SD card(through usb adapter) from
Canon HF100 digital camcorder, it right away started playing in 1080P.
I was able to save it to the hardrive as well.

I have installed Yellow dog linux and can run linux programs.
I now have a 46" Linux computer in my living room thanks to PS3.

The only complaint I have is the flash is updated to the latest version
so I miss most of the flash based stuff from internet. Hopefully Sony will find a way to update it through firmware soon.

Overall I am happy with the product and would recommend it my friends
and peers who are in process of buying a blue ray player.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I got mainly for the blue ray player. If ya get one with a Sony CC there is a $[...] rebate! It works great but I then had to upgrade my AV unit to a 7.1 as it didn't want to get along with the optical out on the PS3. Almost everything is HDMI now (except the laser disk) so they all get along well quite well.
