I bought this about a month ago and I couldn't be happier with it. The last gaming machine I had was the Xbox, and it was fine. I've owned machines going back to the Mattel Intellivision, so I've had some experience with game machines.

I'm thrilled with the Blu-Ray performance and have had a ton of free fun with Playstation Home. I've also downloaded a couple of games from the Playstation store and have had a lot of fun with those. I've uploaded about a dozen of my CD's onto it for break time. So, I'm really impressed with all this machine can do, above and beyond the game function, which it does exceptionally well. For best results you want an HDMI connection to a true HD TV and a connection to the internet. If you already have a wi-fi hub, set-up is a no-brainer.

When I had to make my choice, I nixed the Wii, because of its limited capabilities and the Xbox 360's quality control issues worried me, besides the Xbox 360 plays HD disks, not Blu-ray. I think the Blu-ray player did the trick for me. Take the plunge, you won't be disappointed.

Talked to a PS3 rep for the Walmart in West Hills, CA and he said that it cost around $100 for the chip to play PS2 games to be installed into the PS3. Unfortunately these are no longer able to play older PS2 games... other than that I would say it's the best Blu-ray player on the market for the price - you can update the firmware wirelessly. Buy PlayStation 3 80GB

Honestly this one of the best pieces of electronic equipment I've ever purchased. It seems pricey still at 399 but once you play around with it for awhile you understand why. It's such an elegant machine. The build quality is immaculate and the on screen menu (XMB) is smooth and professional. The old complaint that "it doesn't have enough games" no longer applies. There are many great games out now and more exciting titles on the way, like Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time and God of War 3.

Setting it up to connect wirelessly to my router was a breeze. It has built in wifi. There are quite a few nice little things you can do. I set up my PC as a server, which is very easy to do, and I can basically see my entire C: drive on the PS3 menu, and really cool is how the PS3 can read .avi and other movie files. Just click on the .avi file on the XMB menu and it plays it. No need to insert a converted and burned disc in the PS3. How cool is that. Want to view all your pictures on your tv and listen to all your music that's on your computer? It's all there. Recently they updated the firmware with a nice new photo viewer. It's an excellent media center if you're into that.

If not it has great games to play. Another nice thing is the free Playstation Network. I've spent a lot of time browsing stuff on here. Tons of free demos, game preview videos, interviews with developers, the free biweekly magazine Pulse and quite a few good games. There are casual games if you need something lighter, your Bejeweled type games. There are also more serious games like Wipeout HD and one of my favorites Super Stardust HD. The standard price for games is 9.99, but some are a few dollars more or a few less. There are movies to buy or rent too, but I haven't done that yet. The general consensus is that X-Box Live is better right now. However, I'm satisfied with the PS Network Store, expect for one thing, the text and pictures are a little too small.

Another feature is the browser. It's basic but functional and usable when you get used to it, and it nice to see the web on your HDTV if you have one. As an example I could have easily written this review from it, but I don't have an extra usb keyboard. It could use some work though, like updates to various plug-ins. It does support flash though and can play Youtube videos and Hulu.

A quick little complaint is the usb cord that comes with it is too short, it's about four and half feet. So if you're charging the wireless controller it's hard to play games. I bought a ten foot cord for about 3 dollars to solve that. As many others have said, it doesn't play PS2 games. But after playing current-gen games it's hard to go back so it doesn't really bother me. I've only watched two movies on the blu-ray player and they looked great. Eventually I'm going to upgrade the hard-drive because I am running out of room. There are other cool little things I didn't mention but a new owner will discover them. So overall I'm very happy with the PS3. It's a fine piece of equipment providing many hours of entertainment.

Purchase PlayStation 3 80GB

The short and sweet: if you need a blue ray player, your purchasing decision is easy. Buy the PS3. End of story.

And if you expect to do a fair amount of Blue Ray viewing, I definitely recommend spending another $20 for the Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote.

Rock solid hardware - enjoy blue ray movies and get a great gaming console all in one well integrated, good looking box. Looks great in your A/V rack, let's you get rid of old DVD player(s), makes a decent media server, operates without a hiccup (including long gaming sessions), quiet, reliable.

If you already have a Blue Ray player and are looking for your first gaming console, then I urge you to carefully review all available game titles (the ones you really want to play) and consider the importance of on-line services, multi-player capability, etc. I believe XBOX 360 still has the edge for game titles and on-line play, services - but that didn't stop me from buying latest version PS3 80GB last year (first Playstation I ever owned) and I just unboxed another yesterday.

FYI: I own both XBOX360 and PS3. I like both gaming consoles and won't give either up; see other reviews for comparisons, etc. Both look and sound great with video and audio switched through main AV Receiver (Sony STR-DA4400ES 7.1 Channel) and splashed onto 60 inch HDTV. Using a gigabit switch and CAT6 patch cables to consolidate ROKU, XBOX360 and PS3 (all are located in main A/V rack) internet access via wired gigabit LAN.

As mentioned above, I just unboxed and installed another (brand new) PS3 80GB console yesterday (May 5, 2009). This one was installed downstairs (kids media room) as we needed another Blue Ray player and I couldn't resist the excuse to grab another PS3. This PS3 is connected via HDMI with a smaller HDTV (Sony Bravia KDL-37XBR6, 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV - biggest one we could fit into the built in media alcove). Set-up was a breeze, audio and video are great. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I bought this system 8 months after my Xbox 360 got the Red Rings of Death (RRoD) problem.
what some people don's realize is that not every country has xbox support so i wasn't able to simply send my broken system anywhere.
I prefer this system a lot because its reliable and unlike what most people say, it haves a large library of games as well blu ray capabilities.
I recommend this system to anyone. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB Review

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 by Migo - Leave a comment

I own almost every current system (debating the Wii, but there just don't seem enough great games). Of course, being a major fan of the Halo series I had to get the Xbox 360 for Halo 3 (a great game, albeit short). My one complaint with that purchase was how loud the console itself was; the fan was going nonstop, and even when it happened to be somewhat quiet it was still shockingly, disturbingly loud. Then I decided to plop the money down (and that's a lot of money, I must admit--too much if you ask me) for the PS3 due to Little Big Planet (my curiosity got me, as well as a one-day bundle with the game). The first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. Though it's very, very huge, especially if you compare it to the small Wii, I find it incredibly alluring. It's a bit odd in comparison to the Xbox 360, but I think that's all what you like personally. But what else does it offer besides incredible quietness? Well, there are a lot of good games coming up, or that have just been released, including exclusive titles as impressive as Halo on Xbox 360. Little Big Planet is amazing, even if it is geared toward children specifically, as is Resistance 2 (although the brightness is annoying since it's often too dark in places). Killzone 2 just came out and is one of the best games critically for the system. The fact you get free access to the Playstation Network also helps, even though I don't use that.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB This instant

I had doubts when i bought this system. My brother was nagging me to pitch in half for the ps3. So I finally gave in. The first game I purchased was Resistance 1. At the time the system was pretty meh. My 360 was getting more playtime than my ps3.

To keep up with rent I had to sell 1 system. I wasn't going to sell a brand new system, So i sold the 360. Having more time with the ps3, I learned to love it for what it is. What I'm trying to say is that for 360 owners, The ps3 takes some time to get used to.

First off, The playstation store is not as good as microsofts marketplace. Many demos take long to download and there basically aren't as many demos as in the marketplace. But its FREE! You got to take that into consideration.

Secondly, Bad ports. I've heard a great deal of bugs lie in ports. Such as Fallout 3. The game freezes, glitches, and just plain lags sometimes. There were bugs in the other versions, but not as bad as the ps3 port.

And finally, NO HALO 3. My favorite game on the 360. No game will equal it.

All in all the Ps3 is great. If you have problems with choosing a system for yourself, Think about what you like. If you like playing with friends, 360 is a great choice. If you like adventure games, or if your really into movies(PS3 is a blu-ray player as well), get the ps3. Either way you'll make a good choice. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB Immediately

My PS3 System Game stopped reading ps3 games. You can play games loaded on the hard drive but won't play any disc (Blu-ray Disc DVD, CD). all I see is the loading circle at the corner of the screen and the disc icon does not appear on the XMB.
This only happened 3 months after the warranty expired, and the Sony people want to charge me $150 plus state taxes, and after that they will only offer a 90 day limited service warranty.
Now Sony is very aware of this problem, it's really common there's even a video on YouTube that shows you how to change the BD lens.
So don't go thru all this trouble.
just buy the Xbox 360 and a blu ray player (NOT SONY)

PlayStation 3 80GB Best Quality

Monday, September 21, 2009 by Migo - Leave a comment

This system really is great, although I kind of wish I bought the 160GB version more so b/c it came with Uncharted which is pretty sweet. But besides that, I really love this system. I have a 52" Samsung Touch of Color 6 series and really wanted a Blu-Ray player and since the PS3 was around the same price as other blu-ray players, I bought it. I'm now addicted to the awesome games that are available and I use it to surf the internet. I don't really use the PS Network Community much and most of my friends have an XBox 360 instead, but the PS3 is totally worth it b/c of the blu-ray player and specific games that are only featured on the PS3. Not only that, I've downloaded 12 demos for FREE from the PS Network and plus there's no monthly fee, unlike XBox. Oh, and not to mention that the PS3 keeps updating it's software, whereas the Xbox is pretty much already at its peak. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB Get it now!

I just recently bought a PS3 in January of this year. I had wanted to wait until the HD video wars ended before I purchased it because I didn't think the game selection was all that great compared to the Xbox that I already owned. After blu-ray won I picked it up and now that I've had some experience with it I thought I'd put up a review.

PROS
- Blu-ray: Honestly, I thought I wouldn't care that much about this but thanks to Amazon I have gotten a ton of use out of it. I just pick the movies I want and leave them in the cart until they get to a price I want. The movies look amazing. Planet Earth and Wall-e alone makes it worth having a blu-ray player and where blu-ray players are concerned the PS3 is a great deal.

- Games: There are some great games for the PS3. I own Metal Gear, Valkyrie Chronicles, Uncharted, Killzone 2 and now inFamous. All are great games that you can only get on the PS3 (Although I hear rumors that Metal Gear is moving to Xbox). Of course it also has multiplatform games that are great as well like Fallout but, honestly, they don't really look or play any better on the PS3. If you end up with both consoles you'll just end up buying the version that has the better exclusives. I bought Fallout 3 on xbox because it had all the downloadable content but I might buy Soul Caliber 4 on PS3 because it got Darth Vader.

-Noise: Compared to my old Xbox it's pretty quite.

-Disk Slot: I haven't seen much on this but the way you put in disks on the PS3 is so much better than the Xbox. My DVD tray on the xbox had constant problems after about two years. They fixed it for free but still.

-HDMI: The new Xbox has HDMI but mine doesn't. I really wish it did.

-Wireless: It comes with wireless which is great. It's another 100$ for the xbox wireless. Although it does have the DNS issue (Search PS3 DNS error).

CONS
- Controllers: You may prefer PS3 controllers but I do not. They feel strange to me. But putting that aside the cord they come with is so short that it's almost unusable while you are charging the controllers. The Xbox cables cost extra but they come with a replaceable battery and are ten feet long.

- The playstation store: It's horrible. It's hard to find things, I had the DNS error issue (Search for "DNS error PS3") and when you do find what you want and download it you have to wait for it to install as well. This may sound minor but the xbox store is infinitely easier to use. Especially now.

- Home: Home is worthless. So much was put into this online experience and I don't know a single person who uses it or likes it.

- Games: I know I listed games as a pro but there is a con. There just aren't a lot of exclusives out there and if they are exactly the same I get the Xbox version just because getting updates for the game is so much better. Although, this year has a lot of PS3 exclusives that I am really excited about (inFamous, God of War 3 and Uncharted 2). And I already mentioned that having to install games is an unneeded pain.

-Updates: Again, I have to compare to the 360. Upgrading the entire interface on the 360 took seconds. Doing minor upgrades on the PS3 can take forever. God forbid you want to go into new room on home. In fact, I'd say not to even try Home. It will take 20 minutes just to install it and then you still have to wait another few minutes every time you enter an area for the first time.

-Online gaming: I am not a huge online console gamer but the base truth is that Xbox live blows away the PS3 online gaming experience. Of course the PS3 experience is free but I just have infinitely more problems with connection drops and such on the PS3. If you aren't going to spring for Xbox live though then the PS3 is the way to go if you want to play games online.

-PRICE: I put this in caps because it's the most ridiculous issue with the PS3. The starting cost is ridiculously high on the PS3. I know there is a ton of math that can be done to show that in the long run the xbox costs more but you don't need half the stuff people list. I did fine forever with no wireless network interface controller and a 20 gig hard drive. Although I did eventually jump up to a 120 gig hard drive.

CONCLUSION
Once I got the DNS issue worked out I have enjoyed my PS3 very much. Recently it's gone from being rarely used to being used a ton with blu-ray and all the new games that have been coming out.

If you have to choose between the consoles for some reason I'd look at what you want and go from there. Xbox is far and away the better gaming machine and it has streaming netflix (We use this a ton). PS3 still has good exclusives and all the multi-platform games but by far the biggest reason to grab it is blu-ray. If they were the same price I would recommend the PS3 even more.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

The most versatile and powerful gaming console -- blu-ray, home theater video source, speed, powerful graphics, etc -- just keeps getting better.

The latest (current) generation uses less power and runs cooler. I don't think we've ever heard the fan on the unit.

And, Sony keeps improving it. We've had ours for a little over 6 months and Sony has already added several new features through software updates.

PlayStation 3 80GB Decide Now

Saturday, September 19, 2009 by Migo - Leave a comment

The PS3 is in the middle of its third year on the market. It had a rocky launch and has suffered from various forms of bad press since. It was expensive, the initial slate of games was uninspiring, and people just didn't seem to want them.

I bought mine (a 60gb launch model) in mid-2007, for $the original launch price. About a month thereafter, Sony dropped the price by. D'oh! Then, Sony discontinued the 60 and 20gb models and put out a slate of various new ones - 80gb, 120gb, with PS2 compatibility, without, etc. etc. Eventually, the price went down to (see above) for the base model, and more for bigger hard drives and bundled games.

Here's the thing - they're all worth the price. I'm glad I got mine, even at the original price. Anyone who gets one today at the current price will be getting a great value for their money. If Sony drops the price again this year, the value will get even sweeter.

So what am I talking about? Well, here's a portrait of the use my PS3 gets in an average week:

I play games - lately, I've been playing Fallout 3, Singstar, MLB'09: The Show, and a downloadable game called Wipeout HD. People who say the PS3 is lacking for games are smoking some wacky-tobackey. PS3 gets the same multiplatform games that the Xbox 360 has, and each system has its own exclusive titles. (3 of the above games listed are PS3 exlusives.) In addition, PS3 has an integrated game store called Playstation Network, which allows you to buy downloadable games, retro games from the PS1, look at free previews and game demos, and play online games - for free. To put it briefly, PS3 is a great game system.

I watch movies - every PS3 model, regardless of price point, plays Blu-Ray movies. In case you don't know, Blu-Ray is the high definition disc format that succeeds DVD. Blu-Ray movies are sold on Amazon just like DVD movies, and they look better, sound better, and have more extras. PS3 plays DVd movies just fine, too - it is backward compatible. Netflix rents Blu-Ray movies through the mail, as well. The Playstation Network has a video download service also - you can purchase or rent movies and TV shows and download them onto your PS3 hard drive to watch any time.

I watch TV - something not everyone knows is that PS3 is a capable "media center." Personally, I think watching TV or movies on a computer screen is lame. I've got a 50" 1080p HDTV - I want to watch my content on it! Well, with a little research and elbow grease, you can use the PS3 to stream Netflix, Hulu, and more. I use a 3rd party program called PlayOn - it streams all of this content from my PC to the PS3, so that it can play on my good TV. Is it the best solution? No, Sony ought to offer its own first party solution for this. But as of right now, buying a cheap piece of software and using it to stream everything works great.

I listen to music - it is an easy matter to sync up your PS3 with your music library on a PC. PS3 has built into it a media player that plays music with a video screensaver. I can browse all the folders of my iTunes library and make playlists. If I'm feeling especially adventuresome, I can turn on my PS3 with my PSP handheld system and use it as a remote, without even turning on my TV.

That's an average week in the life of my PS3. Essentially, the PS3 is the entertainment hub of my house, especially when it comes to video. For all of this capability, the price wasn't bad at all. Amazon is currently offering deals with free controllers and the like, making the value even better.

I won't spend a lot of time taking about the Xbox 360 or the Wii. But I will say this - to get the Xbox 360 up to the same capability as a PS3 out of the box, you have to spend money on a wireless internet antenna (PS3 has it built in), a yearly fee on Xbox Live (PS3 lets you play online games for free), and if you want to upgrade your hard drive, pay Microsoft's outrageous proprietary prices (PS3 lets you use any laptop hard drive - I added 320gb to mine for very cheap). The 360 will not play high definition discs (it used to have an HD-DVD add-on drive, but Blu-Ray won the "format war" between them). The Wii, on the other hand, does not output high definition signals at all, so it really isn't as comparable as the 360 to the PS3. The 360 is a fine system. It has good games. Microsoft sells 360 systems for less than the PS3 - but these systems have no hard drive, no wireless, they basically cost the same to get them to the same level of performance and versatility.

So the PS3 has a lot going for it. Here's how I would summarize the PS3's strengths.

Versatility: As described above, the PS3 will play about anything you can throw at it, and it will stream video and audio from your PC, too. It has a great games library and robust online abilities.

Customizable: it is an easy matter to upgrade your hard drive storage space, using off the shelf components at the bets prices you can find them at. Many third party programs (like PlayOn) exist that extend the PS3's capabilities further.

High performance: the PS3 outputs 1080p video by HDMI cable. Its Blu-Ray performance is still among the best on the market, despite being 2.5 years old. Its games are every bit as good looking and good playing as the 360's games, and are much better than the Wii's, generally speaking.

The US is slowly but surely moving to high definition as the standard. Perfectly decent 1080p HDTV's are now available for quite reasonable prices. There really isn't a better time than now to jump on board and get the perfect companion for your HDTV, a PS3. I've not regretted my purchase, even at the original launch price, one time in the past 2 years.

If you like video games, PS3 is a great buy. If you like movies, PS3 can''t be beat. If you want to live in a more "digital home," PS3 is a robust solution for streaming audio and video from your PC. About the only reasons I can see for not getting one are if you hate games, dislike movies, or don't have an HDTV.

Some suggestions:

-Check out the PS3 Blu-Ray remote. It's a fine remote that uses Bluetooth, and is cheap on Amazon.

-Check out PlayOn for media streaming. You can try it for 2 weeks for free to see if you like it. I recommend using a wired network for streaming, wireless seems to drop out a lot more.

-You need to buy an HDMI cable to get the best video from the PS3 to your TV. Don't spend "Monster" prices though! A less expensive cable gets the signal to your TV just like a more expensive one. Digital cables are all or nothing.

-Subscribe to Netflix! Even if you don't use the video streaming, this is a great way to try out lots of Blu-Ray movies. If you like nature, check out "Planet Earth." If you like action, "The Dark Knight" is amazing in HD.

-Some great games are available extremely cheap on Amazon or on the PSN. If you like fantasy RPGs, try "Oblivion Game of the Year Edition." If you enjoy car racing, try "Burnout Paradise." Futuristic racing? Download "Wipeout HD." If you want hardcore first person shooting action, give "Unreal Tournament 3" a whirl. If you like classic style space shooters, download "Super Stardust HD." Most of these games can be had for much less than their original price - and these are serious "next gen" games with great graphics, online multiplayer, etc. You could get all of the above for less than $100!

-Some of the better more expensive games include "Fallout 3" (wait for the Game of the Year Edition with extra content coming out this year), "Resident Evil 5," "Bioshock," "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," and "InFamous." If you like singing AT ALL, get the PS3 edition of "Singstar" (bundled with microphones) and the PSEye USB camera (Trust me on this one!).

Enjoy!

*******************UPDATE********************
Remember, this review is from someone who LOVES the PS3 - my 60gb launch unit has died, suffering the "Yellow Light Of Death" error, after about 2.5 years of service.

I take great care of my electronics. I never ran my PS3 for days on end as some people seem to. I dust and vacuum frequently. My PS3 sits vertically, not in a tight cabinet, and gets plenty of air. Apparently, early 20 and 60gb units were poorly constructed, using substandard thermal compounds between the motherboard and the heatsinks. This bad compound degrades over time, and then the motherboard components overheat.

Even though this fault is a manufacturing issue and is no fault of the user, Sony will not replace a defective system such as this out of warranty without charging you a rather large additional fee, plus local tax.

So, Caveat Emptor. The PS3 is an amazing machine and is great fun to use - until it refuses to work ever again. Apparently, the only way I would get free service is if I had abused my console to the point that it broke within 1 year instead of 2.5. Sony does not stand behind their products and will not fix their own mistakes. "Thanks for your cash," they might as well say, "but #$%& you for asking."

Newer units may be more reliable. They may not. I have no way of knowing. But it might not be a bad idea to get an extended warranty. You may want to get the new Slim model if heating and fan noise are concerns. Lord know I wish I had one.

I add this "thought" -- essentially, not anything like a review -- as a simple "caution" or "comment to consider" when considering whether or not to purchase a PS3 machine for pre-school or elementary-age children.

I admit I'm stupid as far as "game consoles" are concerned, and purchased a PS3 because of the Blue-ray player option, and the advanced processor graphics available on this platform. And, I was "way stupid" in deciding to purchase a PS3 for my twin five year-old boys.

Simply put, it is because there are so very few games available that are either 1) non-violent or 2) non-competitive. I have been especially saddened to see the number -- and the sheer level of -- games that include violence and conflict on the PS3. There are some available -- but they are few, and far "overshadowed" by the games/offerings that are, simply, patently offensive.

This is to say nothing about the quality of graphics, the quality of implementation, and all that other stuff that are fundamentally important to really serious gamers. The choice to play violent games is yours -- and I hope -- unlike my five year-old boys -- you are capable of distinguishing between fantasy and reality.

But, as a parent, I deeply regret purchasing the PS3 platform, and encourage you to consider the Wii, or something that supports games (old or new!) that will present something other than "death," "violence," and "conflict" for your kids to experience. If my kids would understand it -- at their age -- I would apologize for purchasing something for them that has been, frankly, so distorting of reality -- and of what the world needs!

Pros:
Easy setup.
Blu Ray player.
Graphics / Display is at some god level.
MGS4 , Resistance 1 and 2 , Drake.
PSP and PS3 compatibility.

Cons:
Can't think of anything other than the slightly higher power consumption.

Here is the take on the gaming consoles.
Wii - Good for ladies and non-gamers.
Xbox - Go to a friends place to play Gears of War. (Other than Gears of War. It is a piece of cheap h/w not worth the money)
PS3 - Not only does it have the best hardware in class. Some of the best games ever made on this planet. MGS4 and Drake are available only for the PS3. Add to that the Blu Ray player.
For any serious gamer MGS should be a reason to own the PS3.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Cheapest PlayStation 3 80GB

Best way to go about getting a Blu-Ray player. It provides for hours of fun in gaming, and the movies are incredible. I would recommend this system to anyone. As an aside, I don't think the 160GB version is a better buy, even if it comes with a game. Hard drives are very inexpensive, and if drive space is a concern, you can certainly upgrade for less money. Plus you're not stuck with a game you may not want.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I am very dissapointed with the PS3 purchase. The fan is VERY loud when your watching movies, playing games, basically anytime. I thought the xbox 360 had a loud fan but the PS3 is louder and its VERY distracting. I purchased a full 1080p television to get the most out of the PS3. Afterall, Sony talked and talked about 1080p and how it is the future. Howerever if you look at the majority of games, very few of them are in full 1080p. This is not the case with XBOX 360 games where its just about impossible to find a game NOT in 1080p. Check the back of the games to see.
The unit is very big, bulky and heavy. Online is a total joke on PS3. It's too late in the game for Sony to catch up with Microsoft here. XBOX live is so smooth, mostly lag free and you truly FEEL like you are part of an online community. Its so easy to meet friends, and keep in touch with them by either messaging, voice or video chat. Sony just has this clunky afterthought for their online service.

I am not by any means a "fanboy" as they are called. I just want to put my two cents out there for people who are looking to invest the money in this system.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Buying PlayStation 3 80GB

I was happy with the system, watched a lot of movies on it and downloaded movies. But the BD drive died after 13 months, right after the warrantee expired. Did some searching on line and found a petition with a thousand signatures on it with people with similar problems. The hardware is not reliable and Sony is not helping. I was an avid Sony fan with a Sony receiver, tvs and playstation. I am very disappointed with Sony and the playstation.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

After debating for several weeks on which system (XBOX360 or PS3) would compliment my new 42 inch Philips tv, it became clear that the PS3 has the upper hand. Although it was alot closer than I thought and turned into a very difficult decision, ultimately the BlueRay player won me over.

The PS3 comes standard with an 80 gig hard drive, built in wireless card, and all online play is free. Their menu's were a little foreign to me as Im used to the XBOX feel of things, however you will learn navigation quickly and start to love the clean feel of Sony. Everything feels crisp out of the box and after setting up an online account (which links all your game play and records with your profile), you can jump right into the Playstation Store where movie purchases can be made or rented, as well as an assortment of game titles. There is also a free online virtual Sims look alike called Playstation Home, Sony's new prize child designed to gather gamers together in a neutral setting and allow for free chat and arcade style games (similar to IMVU.com) to be played in an attempt to create a stronger user base.

If you are a movie buff, you'll find that the BlueRay player has been seemlessly integrated into the overall design of the PS3. I have watched several BlueRay titles and they look absolutely jaw dropping on the 1080i HDTV with HDMI connection. I noticed a drastic improvement of standard definition movies as well, which is strange but very possible as the PS3 BlueRay significantly out-do's my older Sony DVD player.

Ok, now for the gaming. Most of the titles I have rented or purchased for the PS3 have looked and played quite well. The mainstay of my collection is Madden 09 as this is the primary reason for purchasing the system along with the movie player. So most of my experience is with this title, however I have played games such as MotoRift, FarCry2, and my current rental - UFC Undisputed. All look absolutely amazing but the overall selection of titles is lacking on PS3, this is ultimately why most consider the 360 a better gaming machine. This being said, alot of the titles which will be released in late 2009/early 2010 are going to be blockbuster releases, some PS3 exclusive. Dont get too excited about the wireless card which comes intigrated into the PS3 design, for an online experience worthy of gaming you'll need a wired connection. Even at 90% connection, my router just can't keep up with what the PS3 needs.

We're coming up to the six month mark and so far I've had zero real issues with the PS3 80gig. Sonys latest E3 conference sounds confident that they will continue to provide for the best gaming experience on PS3 well into 2010/11 and frankly I just dont see the XBOX 360 getting that far.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

The only real way to get backwards capability is to buy a used (3 year old) 60 gb ps3 on Ebay and pay a premium for it. You can buy this brand new one (which I hear uses less energy too) and a brand new ps2 for roughly the same amount of money as that used one on ebay...so why wouldn't you do that? I know why, because your ps2 still works! I got this one and I kept my ps2, works fine for me. Heck, I still wish I had my old NES, SNES, and Genesis.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Where To Buy PlayStation 3 80GB

We purchased the PS3 in January 09. Sent it back in for repair at the end of April as previously played media would not load (media loaded on other PS3's fine. Original PS3 returned with case scratched in several locations and the same loading issues. Resent back to SONY in May. Just received it back tonight 6/8/09, the same problem exists. Called SONY, waited 15 minutes to speak with someone who stated we need to send it in for repair. Thought that's what we have done twice now! Will not replace with a new unit, will send a factory rebuilt unit but cannot guarantee the case will be like new as this is the "most expensive part of the unit". So far the playstation 3 has been at Sony or in transit for an overall total of one month. When the system is functioning, the graphics are wonderful, system is quiet and overall a great value. Buyer beware if you end up with a lemon!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

ok, I bought the PS3 when they first released the 80GB version. Since then, I've been playing Madden '09 on a daily basis. After the initial purchase, I bought a wireless router, a HDMI cable, and a Sony Bluetooth Headset(really good). I've had a lot of fun! Now, here is the bad news. The EA Lobbies are empty, so I've been trying out the free demos at the Playstation Network. So far, I bought Flower(don't suggest), Pain (so-so), GTI Club (awesome), Zuma (awesome), and Pixeljunk Monsters (awesome). I've been waiting to find a game worth buying, but I'm not into all that 3-D graphics and war/killing based themes.
My question is why aren't there more football style games? I bought NCAA Football '09, as well as the horrible NFL Tour (picked it up for $13). I really would buy another football game, even if it stunk. Heck, I bought Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Football, Mutant League Football and played Cyberball for hours on the Genesis.
I honestly believe we need some more variety in this genre besides Madden. Maybe, some developer will read this post and create a fun arcade style game related to football. I only can wish! Thanks for reading.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Everything started out great, but this console ended up collecting dust in my closet.
I downloaded the firmware needed for games and movies from the Sony PS3 website and when I tried to install it from the memory chip, it must have corruupted my PS3 system, because all I got on my tv screen was the Sony the PS3 logo that wouldn't go away. I couldn't advance or start a game or movie. I ended up getting a new harddrive and the samething happened when I tried to install a new firmware.
I called Sony and they said they could fix it for 150.00.
Why should we have to pay for firmware errors that Sony posts on their websites?

Apparently the lazers go out frequently, that there is a back order on them...and may be months until I get it fixed. This seems to be a common problem. Now I am stuck playing my Wii. I recieved my PS3 Friday, June 12th, 2009. The box was a little munched from shipping, but the machine itself had ample padding to protect it. Right out of the box, setup was easy. I had a few worried that it might be more complex than it sounded, from the articles I found online. Altogether, the unit itself is easy to use and there were no problems in operation at all.

The games themselves I got with it ran fine and looked great. Ben having a blast with the machine ever since.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB Buy Now

Wednesday, September 9, 2009 by Migo - Leave a comment

This is my first Playstation system, never had a PS, or PS2...

I always thought the $400+ price tag on the PS3 was astronomical, so I waited till it was $399 to seriously consider it as a console. Still, I thought it was very expensive. I finally cracked down and bought one, and I have had it for 7 months now. I can honestly say, its well worth the price, and it is hands down, the most addicting entertainment system EVER! I was never comfortable calling it an entertainment system before I got it, but now I see why they call it that. It does so much more than just play video games!!! I recommend the PS3 to any gamer who is pondering picking one up. It is the BEST purchase I've ever made!

Pros:
- Games - Graphics, Game play, Addictiveness
- 80 GB - More than enough space, I can't see why you'd need any more!
- Blu-ray play - added bonus as I see it
- DVD player
- Game Controllers - easy to get used to, USB charging, navigate everything on ps3 with game controller(blu-ray, all menus, etc)
- Playstation Network - Free, and TONS of downloads, games, movies, add-ons, etc.
- Friends - Add friends, message in game to them, chat, blu-tooth voice in game. Friend feature is one of the best. Playing with your friends has never been more fun and EASY!!!
- Internet Browser - I never really use it, buts its fun to search for a picture to copy in a message to a friend on the ps3... comes in handy.
- A lot more that I'm forgetting, but Pro's FAR outweigh the cons!!!

Cons:
- Price tag - Biggest CON obviously, if it was $300-$350, it'd be a lot more attractive, but at $400, its still a crazy bargain for what it packs!
- HDMI Cable(not included) - Have to buy an HDMI cable, if you're going to use one, which you absolutely MUST if you want the best quality!
- HOT - like any other piece of electronics, the PS3 gets hot, so if you play in the summer, be prepared to pump the A/C or make sure you compensate for the heat it will pump into your playing area! It doesn't get THAT hot, but warms up the place, good in the winter!!!
- Privacy - the stalking capabilities are immense with the friend features, you can see who you recently played online in games, see what your friends are currently playing, etc. So if you're paranoid, then you might want to pick an obscure PSN name... or just stop being paranoid!!!
- Size - Some people think its big, I think its just perfect, not extremely heavy, but compared to other consoles, I suppose its bigger, but not really a con, but I'll add it!

Thats pretty much it, I've only ever had my PS3 freeze on me... 3 times, and I unplugged the A/C power, and it came right back on, no RING of death like xbox users. And I've PLAYED....... A LOT!!!! So, I think thats pretty good, considering the DAYS of gameplay i've accumulated on my PS3!!!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB Decide Now

I was very skeptical at first when I went to buy this used, but you just can't beat $280 for a $400 system! I expected it to be a little scratched up but not at all! The system looked BRAND NEW! Like i just went to a store and spent 400 on it, but I didn't!

This is a great product. I have played both Xbox 360 and a PS3 and hands down the PS3 wins in my book. Call me a fan boy if you want you little 10 year olds, but I have been around since Atari my friends. I have played them all including the not so popular Sega CD and other add-ons. Even after doing research before buying it I was surprised with the features.

The Graphics are great! Even in the PS3 OS the menus have INCREDIBLE colors! In the games the same! The action just jump out at you. Even on the new DBZ game, that I just tried a demo of, is very vibrant and great. Are there flaws in the picture? YES! But look at consoles years ago! Also, don't compare games that are ported to different systems. These can not compare to exclusive games made to their fullest potential on the PS3. Xbox 360 Exclusives also look amazing because they are made for the system. See not a fan boy little kids...

I love the controller and always have loved Sony's design. I'm not against Xbox's Controller design I just love Sony's more! You can play wireless or wired to charge it while playing. Very nice design.

A Con? Fingerprints get on the cover very easily!

Overall, all of the games i've played so far I have been impressed with except for one. Grand Theft Auto IV is an amazing looking game, but it looks a ton better on a PC even without all of the graphics options turned up it looks better. Not saying it looks bad on PS3 there are just some kinda large flaws. Again, this goes back to the fact that it is a multi-platform game, so this probably explains it. Not the fault of the PS3.

All in all a great buy especially if you buy used from a trusted seller like: WarehouseCentral. They gave the best price i could find for the feedback. And like I said above it looks and plays like BRAND NEW! I recommend them highly!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

PlayStation 3 80GB Right now

by Migo - Leave a comment

I saved up for a while, 10 months, and bought the 80 gb MGS4 system when it was more readily available. This system replaced my broken dvd player as well as being a game console.
--For playing standard DVDs, it does a great job of up-converting, at least to my eyes. I have some really old movies like the The Thing (b/w) with James Arness and Once Upon a Time in the West. They looked great when played using the PS3. I have only purchased 3 Blu-ray dvd movies so far (I wait for them to go on sale). To state the obvious, they look spectacular. I don't have a 1080p tv, I have a 1080i/720p tv (more affordable). The movies play at 1080i and are still stunning to my human eyes.
--For playing games, of course the games are amazing. The colors and picture are beyond vivid. It is almost mesmerizing. So much so that there are games you would almost rather watch than play. The games I have were picked up on sale at Amazon when they run good deals and I have saved a lot being patient that way. I have downloaded a couple of games and those have also been great/good. One was better than the other but the value just cannot be topped. For example, those were $[...] each. You can purchase a wide variety of games for download. Almost anything to suit your tastes, especially if you are from the 8-bit days.
Additionally you can download and/or rent movies, tv shows, watch movie trailers. There is a lot you can do with the system. My version plays my old PS1 games I managed to hang onto over the years and it has the PS2 emulator in it so I can play those. I should mention, I think I prefer playing those on the PS2 anyway (I wish I hadn't given it away sometimes).
Other pluses:
--Bluetooth - you can use any bluetooth headset with it, don't have to buy the special one. You can also pair up a bluetooth keyboard.
--Wireless built in - you don't have to additionally purchase an add-on. Bearing in mind I love ALL CONSOLES, everyone should stop thinking the XBox 360 is cheaper if you must go wireless. It ends up costing more once you purchase the wireless adapter.
--Hard drive is replaceable with affordable, internal drive. There are instructions available on-line about how to do it. Compared to the direct competitor, Sony is allowing the consumer to purchase a very affordable standard internal hard drive vs a proprietary solution.
--Built in internet browser. Has some limitations and using a keyboard with it would help. The HD YouTube PS3 site indicated using the PS3 to look at the videos clips is not permitted. At some point, I think that may change as the entire business model of cable and internet continue on the inevitable paradigm shift that is coming.
--Plays music
--Plays a slideshow of your pictures
All in all, it has been a good purchase. I also have the XBox 360 (birthday gift) and I feel like there are a lot of great things about it too. But it has an issue that always makes me nervous - RROD (red ring of death). Internet is replete with stories of gamers who are on their 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, etc.... console replacement.
---Bottom line: It was worth saving up for. You can research what the system offers using the internet. The money that was spent on cable tv can be spent on other forms of entertainment like movies and games and isn't a fixed monthly bill to worry about. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

**06-22-09 Forgot to mention, currently online play is free of charge. No annual or monthly fee to utilize multiplayer.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Lowest Price PlayStation 3 80GB

Monday, September 7, 2009 by Migo - 2 Comments

I won't lie. I wanted a PS3 for a long time but the original price for it was rediculous to me. $600 for a system that had no great games.

Time went by. The price dropped and more games came out. I saved my money and finally got one.

It was something different to turn it on. I'm used to the old systems where you just put in a game and turned it on. Not anymore. You turn it on and you have a menu to go through showing your options of what you can do. Audio, movies, games, settings, and the Playstation Network. Sony really gave this system the ability to be the center of your entertainment system.

One thing I highly suggest is that you have the ability to hook it up with the internet. Wireless router is highly recommended by others and I. There's many updates for the PS3 and the actual games that will keep it running smoothly. Plus you will have the ability to go online and play HOME.

There's a few things I don't like. One, the new $400 system doesn't have the media slots for the memory stick, sd card, and compactflash.

Second, backwards compatibility for the PS2 is gone. Though you can play PS1 games. But you need an adapter to plug your PS1 memory card into your usb to transfer data.

Third, you run out of memory fast. I really don't think 80GB is enough space to use your PS3 to it's fullest. But there are ways to fix this problem. You can switch out the hard drive if desired.

Fourth, is a minor complaint. New PS3 games that you haven't played on your system before, aren't so quick to play. Before you play, it will have updates for the game you are playing, and want to download the software. Then it will want to install it. Then it has to set up save space for the game. The whole process can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to start. Good news is that after you do this, it doens't have to do it again. You can easily just start the game.

Graphics of course are top notch. The Blu-Ray player is wonderful. And it can play normal DVD's. I haven't expeirenced the 1080 graphics yet since I only have a SDTV but still it looks beautiful. Yet the system comes with composit cables. Bad idea.

There is a LOT of small text when you go to Playstation Networks Home. It's hard to read when the picture is fuzzy. Componet cables are really a must have (remember when you get them you have to go to settings and set the picture to componet same with HDMI) if you want to get all you can without HD.

Sound was okay. Basic red and white audio. However, there is a choice for optical sound. I bought the cable and hooked my PS3 up to my sound system and was BLOWN AWAY! I couldn't believe how much better the sound was (remember you have to go to settings and choose audio output, optical).

The controllers are wireless, with rumble and sixaxes (funny enough I haven't heard of one game where people perferred sixaxes to the basic analog stick seems like it was a bad idea).

Since they're wireless, they need to be charged. You get a usb cable that hooks your controller to the system which charges it. It also puts the system and controller in sync (needs to be done). Your PS3 will include one of these cables BUT will have to be bought seperatly after that. When you buy individual controllers they don't come with it. On top of that the battery in the controller will have to be replaced due to wear and tear.

It can be annoying if you want to play and they have to charge. You can play with them plugged in but the original cable is rather short and gets annoying when you are used to no wire.

Other accessories can be bought. Blu-Ray player remote control (you can use the game controller as a remote), keyboard for the Playstation Network (or you can once again use the game controller), and the PS3 eyetoy.

Overall, I love my PS3. I play it much more then the our Wii. Mainly due to the game selection. Hopefully tons of great games come out in the near future. Even though I'm still addicted to playing Resident Evil 5 and now I just started BioShock. I predict I'm not going to be doing anything else for a while LOL!

Low Price PlayStation 3 80GB

I recently purchase the ps3 and it is so powerful. I like the design and color of the ps3. It's like a computer or a laptop built for gaming and other fun stuff. It is kind of big and little heavy because it is so packed and it has the built in ac adapter, which makes it neat unlike the big chuck on the xbox 360. I don't have a hdmi cable for the hi-def is something I'm planning on getting. The free ps network is awesome. I was amazed that a console has built in wi-fi because I've never had it before. I love the wireless controller and the blue-ray player.

It is on the exspensive side, however you get your moneys worth. I'm sad that it does not have backward compatiability with ps2, however it can still play some ps1 games although I haven't tried. I stayed away from xbox 360 cuz of all the red ring of fire issues. I thought about the wii but it just wasn't as power as the ps3. I'm going to get a Wii pretty soon. I just hope I have time play with my ps3 with school and work.

The part that I didn't like was the controller and the sixaxis. What was the point of the sixaxis if sony wasn't going to use it or if developers weren't going to use it? I think motion sensing is the future and sony really should've thought about this more. If Nintendo can do it than so can Sony. Sizaxis is very limited and I would like to see more use of it.

In all, a great and powerful console. I can't wait until developers begin to tap into the power of the ps3. I hope the motion sensing controllers that sony is coming out with in 2010 will blow away wii and xbox. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.
