I have now had my unit for four months. I use the machine about once a week to watch a movie (all the games suck or are better on xbox). Last night the machine gave me a red light and will no longer work. In looking on line these machines are breaking between 4 to 16 months. I called sony and they are only worried about your proof of purchase because they are only covering units under a year old. I was told my blu ray player was fried and this is a know problem. Average repair time 30 days!!!!!!!!!!! The warranty is also not extended after the repair so I am sure my unit will be worthless in the next 12 months. This will be the last product I buy from Sony. I also am no longer buying any games for the ps3 as I don't want to be stuck with games I cannot play when this unit breaks again out of warranty. Go with the xbox 360 and a stand alone blue ray player. This ps3 was a waste of my money. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

I have had my PS3 form almost a year already, and until now decided to write a review. This is my first and only playstation, and I am amazed by the capabilities it has. When I bought it, I did mostly for the Blu Ray feauture, since stand alone blu ray players cost as much at that time. I have enjoyed every single day having my PS3.
This console can do everything!! It plays games with outstanding PQ and audio, blu ray movies is the same, great PQ and audio. Besides that, with the free upgrades from Sony, I can watch Hulu, listen to Pandora or last.fm, and even read the newspaper if I want to on my big screen. Something great also is that I can stream all my media files to the playstation, so whenever we have family and friends we can show them pictures and videos stored in our computer in our TV without needing to pout them on a USB drive or burn them into a disc.
The PS3 is one of the best purchases my wife and I did last year. If you are thinking in buying a PS3, I can tell you, you won't regret it!! Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

This was purchased mainly for use as a BluRay player. With its built-in wired or wireless connectivity, software upgrading to the latest firmware is automatic (if selected under the countless menus) and flawless. It has NEVER failed to play ANY DVD or BDVD PERFECTLY - including many new releases which have not played properly on other (dedicated) BluRay players.
I also use it to play various video files (both SD and HD) from my computer via Ethernet. Video is great on my 52" Sony 1080p 120 Hz LCD TV, as is sound through my Harman Kardon / Bose audio setup
My PS3 originally had a 40GB hard drive (replaced by 250GB) and came with a "free" BD remote control.
I prefer to use a controller rather than the remote (which has 46 small buttons) when I am watching a DVD. The on-screen options are extensive - and a person who is "Technology Challenged" will face a bit of a learning curve (as they will with the PS3's numerous menu options) when using either their remote or the controller. My advice is to by-pass the remote - I am very glad I did not pay extra for it.
By-the-way, the PS3 is a excellent gaming machine. Though mine gets comparatively little use playing games, I am glad I have that option, and it is fun when the kids are here.
It has performed totally reliably through 18 months of extensive use.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

This is our second Playstation and we didn't really buy it for the gaming aspect as much as for the BLU-Ray player. Of all the players out there, this Sony Playstation is the best for the money, and oh yeah you get a gaming sytem too. The quality of the BLU-Ray player is awesome. Brilliant color, high definition. You couldn't ask for anything better.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.

Bluray player stopped working after 3 months of light use. I started the warranty claim 4 weeks ago and I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Sony and they still cannot tell me when the PS3 will be returned to me. I regret buying a Sony product. I have had similar problems in the past with Sony portable electronics and Sony home audio.

Its the most expensive console on the market because it offers the most. Wi Fi, free online, blu ray, all included. Xbox makes you buy everything seperate. Wii is cool for the first 6 months, but after you play the 15 good games it has you start wanting something more then last gen shovelwear with waggle controls. Playstation 3 has a ton great games coming out in 2009 a lot of them exclusives. Infamous, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and dont forget Killzone 2. Only the best looking most fun FPS so far this generation.
What I`m saying is dont cheap out and buy the competition. Pony up the extra cash and get something that will keep your interest for 10 years, not a few months.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.
