This version of the PS3 as of right now is the cheapest, and also the best. At $[...], you get a PS3 with 80gb of storage, which is more than plenty for the average user. Not to be overlooked is the blu-ray player, which has been said to be one of the best blu-ray players on the market. That is saying something, as the PS3 is primarily a video game console, and stand alone blu-ray players are still inferior to the PS3's. This also comes with a Dualshock 3 controller, which is now the only version that they sell, but is much better then the older Sixaxis that Sony bundled with the console.

While $[...] may seem like a very high price for a gaming console (which it would be if that is all you were getting), the value is unmatched. The PlayStation 3 has been out for 2 years now, and developers are just starting to dig into the power of this machine. The life of the PS3 will far exceed beyond the Wii and Xbox 360. With blu-ray built in, storage on game discs will never be a problem. Also, Sony has a great reputation of building long-lasting video game consoles (can't speak for other Sony electronics though...walkmans). I have owned the 360 since launch, and have gone through at least 5 during the 3 years it has been out.

The games are beginning to catch up to the Xbox 360. They look just as good, and the exclusive games on the console look even better. Nothing can be said about blu-ray except AMAZING. The only downside to the PS3 is that it comes with no form of HD cables, not even component. That is a very minor problem, as you can buy an HDMI cable on ebay for under $[...], but it would be nice to be able to hook it up to and HDTV with it right in the box.

Parents who can't decide to get an Xbox or PS3 - Go with a PS3. I love both of the systems, but for kids the PS3 will last longer, has free online service, and has almost as many games. Also, I have been a long time subscriber of Xbox Live (Xbox online service), and while it is worth the money, it is $[...] a year to play online. Xbox Live has started to be a cuss-fest, as every game you play there is always an annoying kid swearing on the game for no apparent reason. I tend to blame that problem on the fact that most 360s come with a microphone and there are more people on Xbox Live, which also means more idiots. If you don't want your kids exposed to that online, then don't buy them a mic and there really aren't as many trash talkers on the PlayStation Network.

This system gets a 9.0, could be a 9.5 if it lives up to its potential.
I give the Xbox 360 a 8.5 at this time in it's life cycle, as no one knows how much longer it will be around. The biggest downside for me about PlayStation 3 is that almost all of my friends are on 360.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.
