PlayStation 3 80GB

Not going to bother with a complete Playstation 3 (PS3) review, but rather highlights and comparison with Wii, the other major console besides XBOX360, which I haven't played before.

Low down on the PS3:
Blu Ray reader
*Demos available
*Add-ons available
40GB to 80GB hard drive
Better graphics than Wii
More expensive

*Internet connection required

The advantages the Wii has are mainly its innovative motion controls and games. Wii is fun. Wii is definitely more family oriented, however their are normal and adult titles, just far fewer.

Amazon Playstation 3 games by rating:
Everyone(111) 34%
Teen(123) 38%
Mature(90) 28%
Total: 324

Amazon Wii games by rating:
Everyone(422) 74%
Teen(119) 21%
Mature(27) 5%
Total: 568

It depends on which types of games you like and how you prefer to play them. Different genres play better on different systems. For instance, racing and light gun (rail shooters) play better on the Wii, because of the Wii Wheel and precise Wii aim motion controls respectively. A lot of Playstation 3 games are 1st person shooter, which are the best on the PC with mouse and keyboard. Fighting games like Mortal Kombat are best on consoles with controllers etc.

Playstation is the most normal console out of the big 3, the joystick-controller feels similar to the old consoles of SNES, Genesis, Saturn, etc. Also the Playstation brand has been around awhile.

Price-wise
$400.00 to $500.00 PS3
$250.00 Wii
$250.00 Xbox 360

The prices above vary depend on the model or whether USED or NEW. But you could get an Xbox 360 and a Wii for the price of a PS3. I've never tried Xbox before but the controller is awkward and weird looking, unfamiliar. A lot of people get the PS3 just for the Blu Ray. But for mainly gamers, the games are most expensive on the PS3.

For me I would prefer the PS3 over Microsoft's Xbox 360, because of the more familiar controller and the fact it has been around longer and for me personally, beat out my Sega Saturn along time ago. However the Blu Ray addition seems to make everything PS3 way more expensive... Now I got to pay more for every game than the Wii and Xbox360's versions!?

So why get a PS3 over a Xbox 360 and a Wii (combined)? Blu-ray, controller, dependable.

My recommendation is get a Xbox 360 and Wii over the PS3. Xbox360 games used and new are a lot cheaper than PS3 counterparts. And Wii is one of a kind.

For the money, you should also consider upgrading your PC. Especially if you are into First Person Shooter or Real Time Strategy games, since they're the best on the PC. The PC has tons of games (16,950 listed on Amazon). And it never goes out of date, as opposed to consoles that get dated. Another boon is the vast amount of demos. However, some games make you connect to the internet; software and hardware compatibly may be an issue. But you use your PC for other things, not just gaming.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 80GB.
